Taco Bell is getting a makeover, and it's celebrating the occasion with a whole bunch of new stores. Before 2018 ends, there will be 100 more restaurants in the U.S., and by 2022, there will be another 1,000. Nearly a third of those are Urban In-Line or Cantina — meaning you can get your booze on while you eat your Nacho Fries. Here's the low-down on Taco Bell's big announcement.
What They Look Like
If you haven't been to one of Taco Bell's new stores yet, you might not recognize them at first glance. Urban In-Line and Cantina locations go into "highly-walkable areas," aka busy city centers in places like New York and Chicago. Most of them don't have a drive-thru, and are often smaller than suburb locations. Inside, they've got open kitchens, local artwork, a more modern design, and outlets for charging your phone. The menus include tapas-style food options, and at Cantina locations, beer, wine, sangria and alcoholic Freezes.
Where They're Going
New Yorkers, the days of trekking across the city for a quesadilla are soon ending: three Cantinas are opening this year (in Midtown and Chelsea), and 125 more restaurants are set to open in the next five years, throughout all the boroughs. New Cantinas are coming to Brooklyn, Chicago, Hollywood, and Madison, WI this year, too. T.Bell is expanding its international presence as well; there are currently 500 restaurants outside the U.S., with a goal of reaching 1,000 by 2022. More chalupas for everyone!
